andra's review

I’ve read books by Diane Alberts before and I had a feeling I’m going to end up liking this one as I enjoy her writing style and the way story telling capabilities. The Beauty and the Boss is a modern retelling of the classic fairy-tale Beauty and Beast, with a different twist and intended for adult audiences 😉

This fun and sweet story follows Benjamin aka ‘The Beast’, the ruthless, workaholic CEO of Gale Incorporated and Maggie, the country transplant, a dedicated employee of the company, who tries to make a life for herself in the Big Apple. When confronted by his wicked mother in a standard ‘this isn’t what it seems’ type of situation, Maggie blurts out the first thing that comes to mind . . . ‘we’re engaged’ and this is how this power couple started . . .

I adored both characters and it’s because of them that I loved this typical boss/employee romance. Maggie might seem shy at first, but she’s a feisty little one. She has a hard time opening up to people as she’s been hurt before, but for Benjamin she made an exception and it paid off. With his help she learned to trust again and was proven that loving someone doesn’t mean you have to give up your own professional life to make them happy.

Ben was a wonderful hero. He has a pretty awful backstory, that shows us why he’s so closed off to relationships, but with the help of Maggie he let’s go of what’s holding him back and opens his heart to love. He needed Maggie as much as she needed him, they complemented each other beautifully and it showed. Their relationship wasn’t forced, the sexual chemistry was there from the beginning, it only had to develop over the course of the story.

All in all, The Beauty and the Boss is an easy and enjoyable read – it’s fun and smart, sensual and sexy, with an intelligent heroine and a gallant hero, it’s as its title says a modern fairy-tale that you can’t help fall in love with and savor from start to finish.
