Finally, contemporary romance for women over forty!
After a solid career as an economist working at the US Embassy in London, forty-two-year-old American Ivy Cross is ready to jump to the bigger paycheck of the private sector and finally make time for a relationship.
Madrid-based tech superstar Ruben Alegre both infuriates and intoxicates her, and if he only lived closer she’d consider risking her heart.
When the opportunity for an incredible new job in Berlin arrives in the form of sexy Christof Brandt, she wonders if the offer is too good to be true. Her Late Bloomer friends are split down the middle, offering support but no clear decision.
Will she find a future with Ruben? Start a new life in hip and gritty Berlin?
There are no easy answers, but Ivy can’t deny that her life is about to change in a very big way.
Although English Ivy is the second book in the Late Bloomers series by Betsy Talbot, it’s the first one I read and I thoroughly enjoyed it; I didn’t feel lost by not having read the previous book and it only made me want to go back and pick up Wild Rose.
The book follows Ivy, a single woman in her 40s <<< a big YAY to that – who has been working and living in London for the last 10 years. She’s at a point in her life when she feels ready to move, to take life by the horns and do something unexpected and see what might come out of that. Ivy’s been a rather lonely person ever since that special someone broke her heart, she stopped believing in love and the happily ever after.
Ruben is her leading man. He’s a fun loving Latin ladies man. He wants Ivy and he doesn’t take no for an answer. When Ivy has to deal with him on top of every other change in her professional life, she just makes a mess of things. With the help of her friends she might just make everything right again.
I adored this book. It’s such a nice change to have an older career woman as the heroine. Ivy brought up a different set of problems than a regular 20 year old heroine would and it made this book remarkable. English Ivy is a book about choices, finding love and everlasting friendships. It’s fast paced, with wonderful writing and relatable characters. It’s a timeless story, that can be enjoyed by different generations of women who have to answer the same eternal question – what path do I follow . . . heart or mind? Read English Ivy to find her answer ❤
