Promises are lies dressed up for the party.
Secrets poison the fairest of fairy tales.
Lies stain the purest of loves.
I’ve paid the ultimate price for my choices. The tendrils of those sins bind me to my past. The remnants of my love hold me captive.
Then he walks into my life, and makes me believe in second chances. He awakens feelings in me I know I shouldn’t have. I yearn for a future without guilt. With him, I dream of a love untainted.
Regret is a far-reaching emotion. It barrels through time like a blazing comet, and its path isn’t always straight. No matter what I feel, I cannot bring myself to regret the time I’ve spent with Cain.
But it doesn’t mean I can have him.
My name is Celia Lemaire and this is my story of broken promises.
Storms Over Secrets is the third book in The Over Series, a group of interconnected standalone novels.
This is the first book I read by J.A. DeRouen and I’m so happy I finally picked it up – I have to mention I own the previous 2 books, but my reading schedule was so full and I’m always a bit reticent before starting a new to me author. Although Storm Over Secrets is book 3 in a series and characters from the other book appear in it, I didn’t feel lost at all and I’m now even more intrigued to start it all from the beginning.
I truly loved this story and the characters – the author made me love Cain and Celia by making them unique – you have the light, sweet, sexy and funny hero – one who can crack a joke in any situation, but also become deep and serious when that’s asked for. Celia is a strong heroine. No matter her past and her broken promises , she deserves Ia chance at forgiveness and a happily ever after and Cain is just the man for that – he makes her laugh and feel loved and gives her hope for a bright future. I and adored that the author gave them time to get to know each other and have them start off as friends before going down the lovers route.
I enjoyed the way the author made me question what will happen next with all the twist and turns she added to their story. Her writing is some of the best I had the opportunity to read – it’s poetic and vivid and it made me feel like these characters are actual living people, and not protagonists in a literary work. She’s definitely one of the best contemporary authors out there and I cannot wait to read more of her work.
